Works on Paper
Laura Reynolds is an artist who concentrates her efforts in the medium of printmaking. While attending the Ontario College of Art and Design Laura majored in Studio Fine Art with an emphasis in Printmaking and Photography. After graduating from O.C.A.D. in 2002 Laura went on to receive her honours Bachelor of Arts, Studio Art from the University of Guelph.
This particular group of prints are called Monoprints (except for “Unearthed” which is a Photo Etching). The Monoprint is a unique printmaking technique. It is achieved by painting with ink on a flat sheet (in this case Copper), placing a damp sheet of paper over the plate and running it through the press. Pressed into the paper of Laura’s images are dried grasses and flowers along with feathers and Japanese papers. Only the shadows or “ghost” images of the objects remain. The resulting images are glimpses into a world where colour and texture conspire to calm even the most distressed of hearts and sooth the most troubled of souls.
